Thailand, NVIDIA Explore AI Partnership

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra met with Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, today to discuss opportunities for collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) and reinforce Thailand’s position as a regional leader in AI.  

Prime Minister Shinawatra expressed her enthusiasm for the meeting, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties with NVIDIA, a global leader in AI and computing technology. She highlighted the potential for future collaborations to achieve shared goals and welcomed the formal partnership established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and NVIDIA.  

Huang stated that his visit to Thailand aimed to solidify the existing partnership between NVIDIA and the country.  He highlighted NVIDIA’s support for over 50 Thai startups and 40 universities, expressing his hope that these efforts will further ignite and strengthen AI development in Thailand.  

Key discussion points

Both parties acknowledged the crucial role of AI in national competitiveness and security, enabling countries to drive innovation, create jobs, and protect citizens. NVIDIA expressed its commitment to working with the Thai government to develop world-class AI infrastructure and share best practices and technical expertise to support Thailand’s AI initiatives.  

The Prime Minister and NVIDIA CEO also recognized the importance of developing a skilled AI workforce, which is essential for the growth of the AI industry.  They discussed how investments in AI education and training will empower Thailand to cultivate a talented workforce capable of driving AI innovation. NVIDIA expressed its willingness to explore collaboration opportunities in this area.  

Prime Minister Shinawatra emphasized Thailand’s focus on education and skills development to facilitate the application of AI across various sectors.  She reiterated the government’s commitment to making AI a key driver of national development and enhancing the workforce’s capabilities to keep pace with rapid technological advancements. The Prime Minister expressed her hope for continued discussions and deeper collaboration between Thailand and NVIDIA.

Huang acknowledged Thailand’s potential to become a leader in AI development by leveraging its existing data infrastructure, human resources, and business networks. He highlighted the importance of aligning AI development with local languages, culture, and practices to support advancements in areas such as healthcare and smart agriculture. This, he noted, will be crucial in driving Thailand’s digital economy. Huang expressed his confidence in Thailand’s talented workforce and his eagerness to translate this collaboration into concrete actions swiftly.
