UD Trucks Corporation (Thailand) marks its 90th anniversary by unveiling the “Better Life” vision, a commitment to improving lives and the planet through sustainable transport solutions. The company is poised to strengthen its market position with environmentally friendly products, robust after-sales service, network expansion, and enhanced customer satisfaction.
Wilawan Vispapaew, Managing Director of UD Trucks Corporation (Thailand), stated, “Founded in Japan in 1935, UD Trucks has grown into a global leader with operations in over 59 countries. Our ‘Better Life’ purpose drives product development for both people and the environment. This commitment to sustainable transport has led to innovations like the iconic UD engine, ESCOT automatic transmission, and notably, the world’s first truck to feature the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system in 2004, setting the stage for the Euro 5 standard.”
“Better Life”: People, Planet, Sustainable Growth
Globally, UD Trucks aligns its sustainable business practices with the “Better Life” vision, built on three core pillars:
- Better for Growth: Enhancing vehicle technology (e.g., UD Connected, Volvo I-See) and service capabilities through expanded service centers and partnerships.
- Better for the Planet: Delivering Euro 5-compliant products for both UD and Volvo brands, promoting clean energy, and continuing alternative energy vehicle trials.
- Better for People: Engaging in ongoing CSR activities, including road safety education and vision screening for drivers.
UD Trucks (Thailand) Defies Downturn, Holds 10% Market Share
Wilawan reported that despite Thailand’s truck market contracting over 30% in 2024 due to economic challenges, UD Trucks maintained a 9% market share in the heavy-duty segment. Combined with Volvo Trucks’ 1%, the group achieved a 10% total market share.
Last year, UD Trucks was the first brand in Thailand to launch Euro 5 models across all lines with SCR systems. The company also delivered large fleet orders to key clients and expanded its dealer network by three, reaching 25 branches nationwide. To counter the economic slowdown, UD Trucks introduced the industry’s first truck financing program offering terms up to 96 months.
“Our service and parts business grew by 5%, with service contract growth of 7% and a 15% increase in Telematics usage contracts, reflecting growing trust,” Ms. Wilawan added, noting improved brand scores for both UD Trucks and Volvo Trucks in internal surveys.
H2 2025: Full Steam Ahead with Network Expansion and Investor Opportunities
UD Trucks (Thailand) aims to be a sustainability leader in the Thai truck market, targeting growth in both new vehicle sales and after-sales service. The company plans to expand its nationwide dealer network and is actively seeking investors to partner in opening new service centers. Target provinces for new dealerships include Lopburi, Kamphaeng Phet, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Buriram, Maha Sarakham, and Loei, all to boost customer satisfaction and strengthen brand image.
“Despite market challenges, we are confident that our high-quality products, advanced technology, and comprehensive service will drive sustainable growth for our organization, customers, and society,” Ms. Wilawan concluded. “With our ‘Better Life’ mission, we believe sustainable transport is the key to the future, and we are ready to advance with our customers to create positive change for Thailand and the region.”
