Thailand accelerates AI digital transformation, Aims for ASEAN Hub

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) reaffirmed its commitment to positioning Thailand as the ASEAN Digital and AI Hub by 2027.

More than 2,000 participants including government leaders, global technology pioneers, and academic researchers gathered at Huawei Thailand Digital & AI Summit 2025 to explore the next phase of Thailand’s digital economy, driven by artificial intelligence, cloud innovation, and cross-sector ecosystem collaboration.

Prasert Jantararuangtong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing that AI and digital innovation form the backbone of Thailand’s long-term national strategy.

“Thailand’s digital economy is growing rapidly and is projected to expand by 7.3% in 2025,” said Mr. Prasert. “Under our ‘Growth Engine of Thailand’ policy, we are enhancing national digital competitiveness, ensuring a secure digital society, and nurturing digitally skilled talent. With partners like Huawei, we are laying a robust foundation to uplift every sector of Thai society.”

DE Minister also outlined the Thai government’s three-pronged digital strategy:

  1. Enhancing digital infrastructure through the Cloud First Policy, digital public service transformation, and universal high-speed connectivity.
  2. Fostering a secure digital environment to ensure public trust and safeguard citizen rights.
  3. Developing human capital by reskilling 10 million digital users, training 90,000 professionals, and producing 50,000 AI developers within the next two years.

To align with the national policy on digital talent development, Huawei and Chulalongkorn University have joined forces to advance the AI innovation ecosystem and foster sustainable human capital development. This collaboration encompasses the development of ICT infrastructure, co-designing curricula in AI, Cloud, Big Data, IoT, and Digital Leadership, as well as supporting Chulalongkorn University’s full transformation into a Smart Campus in the future.

Prof. Parichart Sthapitanonda, Ph.D., Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, stated that “This collaboration with Huawei reflects our strong commitment to driving digital transformation in the education sector and preparing our students and staff for the modern economy.”

The partnership will leverage the four pillars of the Huawei ASEAN Academy (Thailand) to promote comprehensive talent development including 1) Business School for Leaders – Enhancing digital leadership for future executives, 2) Technical School for Creators – Training skills in AI, Cloud, and emerging technologies, 3) Engineer School for Practitioners – Strengthening hands-on capabilities for engineers, and 4) Digital Inclusion for Users – Promoting digital access and literacy on a broad scale.

Huawei is committed to driving Thailand’s digital transformation through a comprehensive strategy that spans digital infrastructure, AI-ready cloud platforms, and the co-creation of an innovation ecosystem with partners.

David Li, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., added that “AI has arrived at the perfect time to accelerate Thailand’s digital and intelligence transformation. In the next five years, the digital economy is expected to grow three times faster than the GDP. The integration of 5G, cloud, and AI technologies is enabling even small businesses, such as farmers, to adopt tools like AI-powered avatars for online selling and live streaming.”

William Dong, President of Huawei Cloud Marketing, emphasized that AI has become the core engine of global technological innovation, and cloud is a solid foundation for inclusive and ubiquitous AI. Taking immediate action is the key to seizing AI opportunities. Driven by strategies, Huawei Cloud is ready to assist Thailand in becoming the AI hub in ASEAN with continuous efforts in serving scenario-specific needs and cultivating local talent.

At the event, Huawei unveiled its latest AI solutions, which include:

  • AI-native Cloud Infrastructure supporting on-demand computing
  • AI-ready Data Infrastructure that integrates hardware and software into a unified system
  • AI Connectivity enabling seamless integration of data and systems
  • Large Language Models (LLMs) such as Pangu LLM and DeepSeek, tailored for Thai industries
  • Digital Power solutions that are eco-friendly, secure, and reliable
  • AI applications designed for consumers, households, and businesses

The event also featured over 40 ecosystem partners showcasing AI and digital innovations across multiple industries including government, finance, education, and retail. Additionally, three new technology communities were launched: IP ClubOptiX Club, and OceanClub, aimed at promoting knowledge-sharing and continuous learning among Thai engineers.

With combined public and private investments in digital infrastructure expected to exceed 500 billion THB by 2027, Thailand is well-positioned to become a digital and AI economic leader in the region.
