Meta today announced the launch of Reels on Facebook in more than 150 countries including Thailand, bringing Instagram’s wildly popular short-form video experiences and tools to Facebook. Reels’ expansion will allow more people to create and express themselves, and help creators grow their communities and reach new audiences.
Video now accounts for almost half of the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram, and Reels is the fastest growing content format by far. Meta is focused on making Reels the best way for creators to get discovered, connect with their audience and earn money, as well as making it a fun and easy way for consumers to find and share relevant and entertaining content.
Like its Instagram counterpart, Reels on Facebook allows users to create short-form videos consisting of music, audio, effects, creative edits, and more. Fans can also easily follow their favorite creators directly from Reels videos, like and comment on it, or share it with friends.
Over the coming weeks, Facebook will roll out the following updates to make it easier to create and discover Reels in new places:
- Reels in Feed: Discover Reels based on your interests and what’s popular, both at the top of Feed alongside Stories and Rooms and in a new, dedicated Feed section. A new Reels label will soon be added at the top of Feed to help people create and watch Reels in just a few clicks.
- Reels in Facebook Groups: Create and share Reels in groups to express oneself and engage with communities in a more fun and visual way. For admins, there will also be a new ‘Single Theme’ group setting that makes it easy to prompt members to share their Reels.
- Reels in Watch: Watch Reels directly within Facebook’s Watch tab. Facebook is also developing tools to help users create Reels in the Watch tab.
- Reels in Stories: Share public Reels to Stories on Facebook, making it easy to share favorite Reels with friends. Additionally, users can also create Reels from existing public stories.
Thais can now simply create their own Reels from the top of Feed, within a Group’s Feed, or while watching a Reel. Users can populate their Reels using video clips from their camera roll or by capturing something new.
