SIG partners with Thai-Denmark to launch recycling program.

SIG announced a pilot collaboration with Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand (DPO), also known as Thai-Denmark, to roll out the pilot project “Beverage Carton Collection for Recycling” in Khon Kaen province.

This collaboration between SIG and Thai-Denmark is in line with SIG’s drive towards sustainable packaging, recycling, and building a circular economy, and hopes to educate students as well as the communities on the proper handling of used packaging and establishing new recycling habits for handling beverage cartons after use.

The project aims to collect 1,000,000 or the equivalent of 10,000 kilograms of used milk and beverage cartons from 100 schools and communities from now till December 2023.

Vatcharapong Ungsrisawasdi, Director for Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia – SIG Combibloc Co., Ltd., said: “SIG, as a leading sustainable packaging manufacturer, is committed to environmental protection, and leading the way towards a fully circular packaging system in our drive towards giving more to people and the planet than we take out. We are delighted to be able to collaborate with the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand to drive the project “Beverage Carton Collection for Recycling”, to raise the awareness of used beverage carton recycling. With 14 Local Administrative Organizations here in Khon Kaen managing the transportation and helping with the collection from the schools and communities, we believe that this project will be a success.”

Dannarong Thongantang, Head of Office Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand – Northeast area revealed that Thai Denmark, as a producer of milk and dairy products and a major user of packaging products, has set goals to be a part of the drive towards a circular economy to preserve the environment and a more sustainable world.

Vatcharapong added that the “Beverage Carton Collection for Recycling” project is also part of SIG’s commitment to environmental protection. The recycling of cartons will help to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. SIG hopes that this pilot collaboration will be a role model for implementation in other communities in the long run.
